One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest part I

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" begins with the narritor Chief Bromden moping the ward floors. Two black boys are the reason why Chief Bromden is moping. It's the black boys job in the ward to be moping the floors and they put it on Chief Bromden because their lazy and trying to boss him around because he's deaf and mute. In reality Chief Bromden puts up a front that he's disable so it won't draw any attention to himself. He believes that the fact that he's half Indian will help him be incognito. While Chief Bromden is moping, Nurse Ratched comes out and starts with the two black boys. When Nurse Ratched catches the black boys not doing their work in the ward and tells them to shave Chief Bromden's face. While the two black boys were shaving Chief Bromden's face an unexpected incident occured. Chef Bromden witnesses some fog around the ward and I was wondering: what was the fog? They first introduce the fog when Chef Bromden was getting his face shaved. The black boys started to shave his temples and he started to yell so loud that his screams soaked up all other sound. Then comes the fog which made me think it was a calming method because it came at a time when Chef Bromden was in distress. But is that what the fog really is?
