One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest part IV

When the guys return from the successful fighing trip, Nurse Rachet realizes that they have all came back different. Once they were able to go out in the real world they noticed that they weren't as disabled as Nurse Rachet said them to be. McMurphy gets into a fight defending George from the black boys. Chief Bromden comes to McMurphy's aid and they both are punished. Their punishment was the shock treatment and while the Chief was getting the treatment it made him think about his past. He remembered his grandmothers rhyme that said "one who flew over the cuckoo's nest" and it made him think of leaving the ward which related to his grandmothers rhyme would be the cuckoo's nest. Soon after McMurphy threw a party so Billy could loose his virginity, however Nurse Rachet catches them and threatens to call Billy's mother and tell her the story. That night Billy committed suicide. Nurse Rachet blames McMurphy for Billy's death. As a retaliation McMurphy exposes Nurse Rachet's chest. Because of McMurphy, Nurse Rachet has lost control of everyone and as a result sent him to recieve lobotomy. Once McMurphy returns from his punishment, he is in a vegastative state. Chief Bromden doesn't want to see McMurphy have to live that way for the rest of his life since he helped the other guys become mature and realize that they could go back into society. So the Chief sufficated him to death, to put him out of his misery. After doing that he escapes and goes back into the real world as a new man who's mature and stronger then ever.
I learned that McMurphy didn't only care for himself but cared for all the other men in the ward by making the ultimate sacrifice. That sacrifice truely showed how mature McMurphy was at heart.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest part III

As another day in the ward is dwindling away, something out of the norm takes place. While lying in bed, the black boy points out to McMurphy that Chief Bromden is always chewing gum but where does he get it from being that he has no money. Realizing that McMurphy gives Chief Bromden a piece of gum and Chief says thank you. After that, Chief Bromden felt secure enough to open up to McMurphy by telling him his history. He explains his family when he was younger but he explains in depth that he was always treated like he was invisible so he always listened and never responded. Causing him to be cagey. Chief Bromden has finally found a reliable companion and isn't alone anymore.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest part II

Part II begins with Chief Bromden worrying to himself that everyone at the ward has unmasked his disguise because McMurphy told him to lift his hand and he did. While sitting in the tv room, the black boy approaches Chief Bromden and tells him to go do his duty and Chief Bromden acts like he doesn't hear him. The black boy grabs him and directs him to his duty. During every staff meeting at the ward Chief Bromden is allowed to clean around because they "think" that he's disable meanwhile he's been easedropping the whole time. Chief Bromden overhears Nurse Rachet saying that McMurphy is committed and that he's only making it worse for himself. My question is why hasn't McMurphy been informed that he's committed and needs Nurse Rachet's help to leave? Wouldn't it have benifited McMurphy if he knew from the start?

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest part I

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" begins with the narritor Chief Bromden moping the ward floors. Two black boys are the reason why Chief Bromden is moping. It's the black boys job in the ward to be moping the floors and they put it on Chief Bromden because their lazy and trying to boss him around because he's deaf and mute. In reality Chief Bromden puts up a front that he's disable so it won't draw any attention to himself. He believes that the fact that he's half Indian will help him be incognito. While Chief Bromden is moping, Nurse Ratched comes out and starts with the two black boys. When Nurse Ratched catches the black boys not doing their work in the ward and tells them to shave Chief Bromden's face. While the two black boys were shaving Chief Bromden's face an unexpected incident occured. Chef Bromden witnesses some fog around the ward and I was wondering: what was the fog? They first introduce the fog when Chef Bromden was getting his face shaved. The black boys started to shave his temples and he started to yell so loud that his screams soaked up all other sound. Then comes the fog which made me think it was a calming method because it came at a time when Chef Bromden was in distress. But is that what the fog really is?

Hamlet Act II

Act II opens up in Polonius's house with him talking to his daughter Ophelia. She is madly in love with Prince Hamlet and Polonius "believes" that Prince Hamlet is in love with Ophelia also. They discuss Prince Hamlet and Polonius goes to the castle to talk to Claudius and tell him his idea of getting Prince Hamlet and Ophelia together. Especially beings that Prince Hamlet is still upset and morning his father, Claudius believes that it will be an even better chance for Ophelia to be with Prince Hamlet. When Polonius enters Claudius's castle he tells him quickly of his plan of getting Prince Hamlet and Ophelia together and Claudius and Gertrude love the idea. Polonius runs to Prince Hamlet and starts talking to him immediately about Ophelia. ( Act II, scene II, page 56, lines 185 - 190 ) Polonius says "How say you by that? Still harping on my daughter. Yet he knew me not as first. He said I was a fishmonger. He is far gone, far gone! And truly in my youth I suff'red much extremity for love-very near this. I'll speak to him again.-What do you read, my lord"? Prince Hamlet isn't very impressed with the fact that Polonius barged into his house and is trying to throw Ophelia at him. Polonius thinks that Prince Hamlet is madly in love with Ophelia when the reality of it is that Ophelia is madly in love with Prince Hamlet. The Prince is still in his "ill" state one can say. He is still mourning his father and still coping with the idea that his mother remarried to his father's brother. His uncle is now his father! Ontop of all that Polonius is trying to throw his daughter at him. The Prince is to overwhelmed to deal with that so he walks away. Goes outside and starts to talk to himself about everything that just occurred, trying to compromise it all and make some sense out of it. ( Act II, scene II, page 72, lines 615 - 620 ) Prince Hamlet says "I know my course. The spirit that I have seen May be the devil; and the devil hath power T' assume a pleasing shape; yea, and perhaps Out of my weakness and my Melancholy, As he is very potent with such spirits, Abuses me to damn me. I'll have grounds More relative than this. The play's the thing Wherein I'll catch the conscience of the King." During this time when Prince Hamlet is talking on his own, he is basically blowing off steam but is going to listen to his father's ghost. He gave his father his word and he will go by it.

Act 1 Scene i,ii

Act I starts off with Bernardo and Marcellus telling Horatio about the ghost they saw two days ago and fully explained to him that the ghost they saw looked exactly like their late king, King Hamlet. As they talked more to Horatio about the ghost they saw, he bagan to not believe them and thought they were joking with him, until the ghost entered. Once Horatio saw the ghost he believed Bernardo and Marcellus and wanted to show Prince Hamlet right away. Horatio figured since the ghost was his father he would want to stay to talk to his son, however the ghost exits without any difficulty. After Marcellus is shocked that the ghost dissapeared. He says (scene I line 145 page 8) "We do it wrong, being so majestical, To offer it the show of violence; For it is, as the air, invulnerable, And our vain blows malicious mockery". At this point in time Prince Hamlet is very curious of his father's ghost's whereabouts and hopes he comes back to speak to him. Claudius thanks people for helping him with his brothers funeral and also with his own marriage. Claudius just married Gertrude and I can understand why Prince Hamlet is having an extremely hard time coping to all of this. He is still mourning the death of his father while Claudius and Gertrude are pushing him to stop. (scene II line 150 - 159 page 16) "O God! a beast, that wants discourse of reason Would have mourned longer - married with my uncle; My father's brother, but no more like my father Then I to Hercules. Within a month, Ere yet the salt of most unrighteous tears Had left the flushing in her galled eyes, Shes married. O,most wicked speed, to post With such dexterity to incestuous sheets! It is not, not it cannot come to good. But break my heart, for I must hold my tounge"! I feel like Prince Hamlet was just letting some of his feelings out of the whole situation that's occurring. He is suprised that his own mother isn't mourning with him. She remarried with no problem while Prince Hamlet is falling apart. He feels like everything is just happening to quickly and he's becoming overwhelmed with everything and was thinking about suicide when Horatio enters his room. Horatio helps Prince Hamlet get over his upset feelings by starting to bring up the apparition. Prince Hamlet aggrees with Horatio and Marcellus to stay up and watch out for the ghost.
